Keep Valentine’s Day going for a month (or year) with a book of vouchers for your sweetheart. these are not items you’ll buy, but things you’ll do. choose things your lover really wants or needs. some ideas are:

  • Do the dishes for a week.
  • Give a foot rub.

  • Cook a romantic dinner.
  • Weed the garden.
  • Arrange a cozy evening at home: fireplace, candles, no phone.
  • Watch your sweetheart’s favorite show or sport, not yours.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner – just about a month away Are you still wondering what gifts to pick up for your boyfriend? Well, you are not alone. some of my women friends find figuring out what men want are tough and to get something for their boyfriend is even tougher. they are not fussy, just that every woman wants to make their man feel really special and naturally, the Valentine’s gift has to be unique and can help her convey her feelings for him.

I am often approached by friends during this time of the year for advice on a boyfriend’s gift.Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year for many lovers, I guess. Or perhaps, women are comparatively more romantic than men and therefore this special day is more important to women than to men.

Regardless, I always have one thing to share with my friends, that is, although Valentine’s Day is about love and a reminder to celebrate with their sweetheart, it is not the only time to express their love and positive feelings for their boyfriends.

Rather, every day is an opportunity to share presence with their beloved, express their feelings and renew the bond of love they share together. I don’t encourage splurging on your sweetheart, it is better to spend within your means. With that in mind, here are some ideas for boyfriend gift on Valentine’s Day:

Personalized boyfriend gifts make good gifts for your special man on Valentine’s Day. you don’t need to go to the extent of renting a plane and have your boyfriend’s name written and encased in a heart. Take a moment to brainstorm things your boyfriend usually uses and which you can personalize, for example, you can engrave your boyfriend’s name on a pen. just imagine the smile on his face whenever he uses the pen, isn’t it sweet having you always on his mind?

Another creative and unique idea to touch your boyfriend’s heart is to personalize a special scrapbook with both you and his pictures from the day you first met and things you have done together in your daily lives. you can add some thought and feelings in the scrapbook. the scrapbook is a symbol of your love and memories that you both shared together. Isn’t it meaningful?

Finally, the old saying -the way to your lover’s heart is his stomach. Food is an expression of affection. Your boyfriend and you may eat your way to ecstasy with chocolate and oysters which claims to be aphrodisiac. try concocting a personalize dish for him or even a simple dish. It will inevitably melt his heart. Don’t forget the romantic music as it can enhance the overall ambiance.

The above ideas and suggestions will be a guide to creating a romantic and sweet loving Valentine celebration for you and your boyfriend. It need not be expensive or luxurious. Valentine’s treats

Treat your valentine to an arty weekend at River Market.

The market, at Westminster Quay, is holding a Valentine’s-themed Fall In love With River Market day on Sunday, Feb. 13.

Among the treats, you can pop by the new West Artists exhibition on the second floor, open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The artists’ group, which was profiled in the Feb. 5 Record, has just recently started up in the city, and this is its first exhibition – all works will be priced for under $100. (I plan to pop in this weekend, so I’ll report back.)

At 11 a.m., the Vancouver Circus School is offering a couples intro class for $50 per couple, running till 12:30 p.m. to register, call 604-544-5024 or e-mail info@vancouvercircusschool.ca. That’s on the second floor.

On the first floor, you can enjoy the music of the Creole Jazz Band from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. or take part in Valentine’s crafts during the same time period.

Businesses at the market are also getting in on the fun -there will be sweetheart tea from the great Wall Tea Company from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., chocolate demos at Donald’s Market from 3 to 6 p.m. and half-price appies at the Paddlewheeler Pub from 4:30 to 10 p.m.

ENJOY a MUSICAL FUNDRAISING LUNCH

If you saw the Feb. 9 Record, you’ll know that new Westminster Secondary School is staging Grease as its musical production this year – it’s on at Massey Theatre Feb. 24, 25 and 26.

What you may not know is that it’s no small financial undertaking to put on such a production – in fact, costs for staging a musical can run into tens of thousands.

And, with an estimated price tag of $40,000 for Grease, the school can use a little help from its friends.

On Thursday, Feb. 17, Moonrakers pub is hosting a musical luncheon between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

The pub will donate $5 from every meal to the school’s fine arts department, and some cast members will be on hand at 12:15 to perform songs from the play.

“Our customers are active in the community, and this is a way for everyone to enjoy a great lunch, a terrific show and contribute to a very worthwhile cause,” said Mike McKee, general manager of Moonrakers, in a press release.
