What Does Valentine Mean?

According to history, Valentine was a name of one of several martyred saints of ancient Rome. of the Saint Valentine whose feast is on 14 February, nothing is known except his name and that he was buried at the Via Flaminia north of Rome on 14 February. It is even uncertain whether the feast of that day celebrates only one saint or two or more saints of the same name. the name Valentine means worthy and was popular in late antiquity. the official Roman Martyrology for 14 February mentions only one Saint Valentine.

Why does Valentine symbolize romantic love? when does it start symbolize that?

It all begins from the Legend Aurea of Jacobus. the very brief vita of St Valentine has him refusing to deny Christ. Before his head was cut off, this Valentine restored sight and hearing to the daughter of his jailer. Jacobus makes a play with the etymology of Valentine, as containing valor. Then, it was discovered about hearts and last notes signed from your Valentine, as is sometimes suggested in modern works of sentimental piety. Legend of Valentine appears in the late ages in England and France, when the day of 14 February became associated with romantic love. 14 February becomes Valentine’s Day.

Nowadays, history about Saint Valentine might not be known for people. But, it is good to know the history of this yearly event. Valentine’s Day becomes a very popular day when people share love to each other. many people exchange gifts, such as perfumes and fragrances, chocolates, flowers and many others.

Valentine’s Day Mantel Inspiration & Party Announcement

Valentine’s Day is just a few weeks away and I thought it would be fun to host a Valentine’s Day Mantel Linky on Monday, January 24th!  Uh…didn’t we just decorate our mantels for winter?  yes, we did.  But let’s change things up, add some hearts, throw some pink up there and get festive!  I know, I know, you’re headed to Blissdom next week and are trying to figure out how you’re going to fit all those cute outfits, boots, and technology into one carry on.   But I challenge you to find a half hour this weekend and get that baby decorated!

In order to get you in the mood (cue Barry White music.  Although as a side note that music does nothing for me; I’m more of a DMB circa 90′s Crash album kinda girl. Sigh. LOVE the song Say Goodbye.  You can click here for the back story on that one.  But I seriously digress.  What were we talking about again?  oh yes mantels!), I’ve compiled some inspiration pics from last year’s V-day mantel party!

      Valentine’s day kid’s craft: “Stained Glass” Crayon Hearts & 3-D stand up card

      How to make simple stand up Valentine’s day cards and a mobile using wax-paper and crayon hearts. I found this idea will doing an online search. Kids can help with unwrapping the crayons and making the shavings, but an adult should do the ironing :) I have used this technique before in the fall with leaves. You put the leaves between the wax paper sheet and add some crayon shaving and some glitter. Iron and you have preserved coloured leaves.
