Reaction To Afghanistan Troop Withdrawal

President Barack Obama Afghanistan announcement is a welcome one for many families who have loved ones currently stationed there.

Forks Of Elkhorn Baptist Church has been a saving grace for Whitney Valentine in the months since her husband, Jeffrey, left for Afghanistan. 

“It’s been difficult but with our church family and our friends its just been amazing how the support and everybody has come through and helped us. It’s been great,” says Whitney. 

So the announcement of troops being withdrawn from the country is heaven sent.

“Yes, this a blessing from God  that all these tours home. All these families will be happy and thankful that everybody will come home safe.”

Whitney says its great news for her 3 kids, who have had to adjust to life without Daddy at home.

“I have a little 2-year-old girl. she misses her daddy a lot and says ‘Daddy, Daddy’ all the time,” she says.

Jeffery’s tour is currently slated to end early next year.

Whenever it does, he’ll join the 100,000 troops that are expected to return over the next year, seemingly putting an end to a decade-long war. “I didn’t think we would see the day that no troops would be sent over, but this is a great day and I’m very thankful that no more troops will be sent over,” Whitney admits.

But now soon it will be a reality, meaning in just a few months, Whitney and her children will be able to attend Wednesday church service with Jeffery again… no longer wondering if his stay at home is temporary.

“It’s great to know that my husband will be able to bot have to go back over there.”

Jeffery left for Afghanistan in March and is expected to return in February of next year.
