Purse Stolen At Redford Church; Woman Hospitalized

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A man stole a woman’s purse Thursday morning at St. Valentine’s Catholic Church in Redford Township, church staff said.Rose Pattenaude, 74, said she has been going to mass at 8:30 a.m. for 53 years. On Thursday morning, Pattenaude said her purse was stolen right off the pew when she turned to talk to a friend.”I’m devastated,” Pattenaude said. “We can’t even be talking to another friend here in church without being violated. Something’s happening to our world. All we can do is pray.”Woman, 74, Hospitalized after Her Purse Was Stolen At ChurchStaff at St. Valentine’s said a man walked in through the church’s side door and snatched Pattenaude’s purse, then drove off.”I had my cellphone. I had all my keys, house keys, car keys,” Pattenaude said.Father Paul, a priest at St. Valentine’s, said he, Pattenaude and the church’s maintenance man chased after the thief, but he got away.”I think it is something to do with the sign of the times, in a bad economy,” Father Paul said. “This is not the first time something like this has happened in a church.”Pattenaude, a senior citizen living on a fixed income, said she started having chest pains and had to be rushed to a hospital.she was released from the hospital and doing better Friday night.”If you wanted the money, fine,” Pattenaude said. “But please give me my purse back.”Redford police said they did not have any leads on the theft.
