U.S. Census Bureau Facts for Features: Father's Day: June 19, 2011

  • June 26, 2011 at 4:48 pm

WASHINGTON, June 13, 2011 – WASHINGTON, June 13, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ — The idea of Father's Day was conceived slightly more than a century ago by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Wash., while she listened to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909. Dodd wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart, a widowed Civil War veteran who was left to raise his six children on a farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father's Day celebration — 101 years ago, June 19, 1910, proclaimed by Spokane's mayor because it was the month of Smart's birth. The first presidential proclamation honoring fathers was issued in 1966 when President Lyndon Johnson designated the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. Father's Day has been celebrated annually since 1972 when President Richard Nixon signed the public law that made it permanent.

Where to take my girlfriend for Valentine's Day dinner in Chicago?

  • June 25, 2011 at 8:00 pm

I would like to take my girlfriend out to dinner on Valentine's Day, which will also be our 1-month anniversary. what venues would you suggest in Chicago?

If you don't have reservations by now it may be difficult to get in to many places.
If you go the day or two before or after that may be better.
I like The Italian Village on Monroe. very romantic there are some tables set into alcoves for privacy. there are curtains that can be pulled to close off the table all together.
You might want to make it a several day celebration. Start with a trip to Garfield Park Conservatory on Saturday. while there give her a card with an invitation to a Dinner on Sunday and a Movie on Monday. That way you get the Valentines dinner in the day before and a nice quiet movie on Valentines day.
Your other option is to make a nice dinner for her and make the same type of dinner as to where you will take her either the next weekend or in a day or so.

Definitely Red Rooster – 2100 N. Halsted in the Lincoln Park/DePaul neighborhood neighborhood – make reservations – it is small and intimate and so romantic – excellent food and atmosphere – tell Michael 'Vicky' sent you – he'll be thrilled ——–

Geja's Cafe, a romantic fondue restaurant. They might be booked though.

You've just been dating for 1 month? just keep it low key here. I'd go to a good pizza joint like Lou Malnati's.

How To Choose The Gifts For Valentines Day

  • December 27, 2009 at 1:13 pm

February is the month of love. February 14 is the day that we shower our loved ones with love. On this day lovers give each other Valentine’s cards, flowers and most importantly gifts to demonstrate their heartfelt love. Valentine, who was an early Christian martyr, inspired this day that has been observed for centuries.

This day isn’t reserved for lovers. Valentine’s Day is a reason to reconnect with nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, cousins, and your parents. Everyone who is dear to you can be sent a present to show your affection. Best wishes are exchanged by Valentine’s Day cards and gifts.

Choosing a suitable gift for the people in your life is easy if you know what options are available. Children’s Valentine’s Day gifts generally tend to be on the sweeter side and often include chocolate, decorated cookies, or candies. Another option for children are toys, games, or puzzles. A great idea is to choose a gift basket, which can include gift selections tailored specifically to the child. What child would not love a basket filled with small toys, chocolates, and stuffed animals!

For those looking for gift ideas for their loved one, many choices are available depending on the person’s interests and likes. Flowers are always an excellent choice for Valentine’s Day. In today’s world, you can send almost any type of flower to any destination. What could be better than receiving a beautiful, exotic bouquet with a perfect fragrance from your loved one!

If you love your valentine a lot, you can gift something expensive like diamond studded watch or designer jewelry. This would be the most wonderful gift that your partner might have received from you. You can even gift your partner the choicest cakes, chocolates or cookies. Chocolates are generally loved by all and you could try for some gourmet chocolates for your spouse/partner.

To locate that special gift, search through the shops stuffed full of fantastic Valentine’s Day gift baskets. Gourmet baskets of chocolates, cookies, and other goodies are the usual indulgence for your lover. You can select the zero-calorie chocolate baskets to satisfy a dieting sweetheart. A basket filled with high-quality wine will be praised and enjoyed. Depending on your budget, you can choose a Champagne basket or go all out with the top wines.

You can even gift your wife or girl friend a spa basket filled with all the essential spa items. There are many gift baskets for men with themes like good grooming basket, golf, fishing, cigar and chocolate. If you do not like the readymade baskets, you can have one made according to your wish and personalized with special touch. Your partner will surely love the gesture and be grateful to you. Gift baskets are available online and it is very easy to browse through them and order them online without having to suffer the crowds at the stores and malls.

Valentine’s day gifts can sometimes be hard to find, especially if your wife, girlfriend or mother is a little picky. TheBasketSpot.com offers the best solution to your Valentine’s day gifts for men problems. Consider chocolate covered strawberries or even fruit gift baskets as unique gifts.
