Huron stage opens with Rodgers and Hart tribute

The Huron Playhouse, opening its 63rd summer season, celebrates the extraordinary 24 year partnership of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart in “Beguiled Again: the Songs of Rodgers and Hart.”the musical revue will run June 28 through July 2 in the McCormick Middle School on Ohio Street, in Huron.“Beguiled Again,” first developed by the regional theatre Florida Stage, features nearly 50 selections from the Rodgers and Hart songbook, illuminating their output through 30 stage musicals and eight motion pictures scores. They include “my Funny Valentine,” “the Lady is a Tramp,’ and “Blue Moon.”Headlining the 25 member cast are Playhouse veterans John Glann (New York City), Geoff Stephenson (Huron) and Emilly Casale (Huron).Also featured are Rachel Hull (Goodrich, Mich.), Sarah Laughland (Frederick, Maryland), Rachel Mulcahy (Syracuse, N.Y.), Hannah Timm (St. Marys, Penn.), Benjamin Bercot (Ft. Wayne, Ind.), Thomas Daniels (Falls Church, Va.), Daniel Floren (Eau Claire, Wisc.) and Alex Ghattas (Flint, Mich.).this production is co-directed and choreographed by Playhouse managing and artistic director Jann Graham-Glann and Emily Casale. Kerry Glann (Huron) veteran Playhouse musical director and conductor brings the score to life.Frank W. Glann, long-time Playhouse member (Huron) is designing the multi-purpose setting allowing for a fluid change of scene and action. David L. Gilmore (North Fairfield) will serve as technical director; Maxwell Schnur (Joplin, Missouri) is lighting designer; and Andrew Stroud (Kettering) is sound designer.Here is the schedule for the resto of the summerseason:* “CHEAPER BY THE DOZEN” — Christopher Sergel adapts the hilarious story about a large family in the turn of the last centry. Performances are July 5 to July 9* “a LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC” — Stephen Sondheim Broadway hit was inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film “Smiles of a Summer Night,” about an older actress in the middle of a sordid but funny love triangle. Performacnes are July 12 to 16* “DON’T DRESS FOR DINNER” — Marc Camoletti concocts the perfect light romantic farce. Performances are July 19 to 23.* “THE KING AND I” — Rodgers & Hammerstein created the classic musical based on Margaret Landon’s novel “Anna and the King of Siam.” Performances are July 26 to 30.Ticket prices for all Huron Playhouse productions are $16 for adults, $15 for students and senior citizens and $12 for children ages 11 and younger. In a partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts, the Blue Star Museums program denotes a certain level of dedication to the U.S. Armed Forces by select American museums.In celebration of this status, Blue Star museums offer free admission to all active duty military personnel and their families through Labor Day.“Blue Star Museums may be the program at the NEA of which I am proudest,” said NEA Chairman Rocco Landesman. “Blue Star Museums recognizes and thanks our military families for all they are doing for our country, and simultaneously begins young people on a path to becoming life-long museum goers.”Leadership support has been provided by MetLife Foundation through the organization called Blue Star Families.“last year the success of the inaugural year of the Blue Star Museums program showed that partnerships between the nation’s museum and military communities are a natural,” said Blue Star Families chairman Kathy Roth-Douquet.“we are thrilled that 300,000 military family members visited our partner museums in the summer of 2010. we hope to exceed that number this year as the military community takes advantage of the rich cultural heritage they defend and protect every day.”this year, more than 1,324 (and counting) museums in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa are taking part in the initiative, including more than 500 new museums this year.Museums are welcome to join Blue Star Museums throughout the summer. the effort to recruit museums has involved the partnership efforts of the American Association of Museums, the Association of Art Museum Directors, the Association of Children’s Museums, and the American Association of State and Local History.this year’s Blue Star Museums represent not just fine arts museums, but also science museums, history museums, nature centers, and 70 children’s museums.Participants include the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond, Va., the Children’s Museum & Theatre of Maine in Portland, Maine, as well as the Merry-Go-Round Museum.Go wild with animalsfrom the carousel“Wild!” the Merry-Go-Round Museum’s current exhibition, displays more than 30 of the rarest carousel animals from nationally known private collections.the exhibit provides visitors with a clear view of spectacular carousel art. the museum is currently open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 5 p.m., with the last admission at 4:15 p.m. Sunday hours are noon to 5 p.m.Visitors are advised to check the museum’s website for additional information and special admission days, or call (419)626-6111.the Merry-Go-Round Museum is located at 301 Jackson St., Sandusky.
